Today, let’s delve into the crucial roles of support staff necessary for your business and understand the significance each plays. To position your enterprise for success, there are three primary roles to be filled, each requiring specific talents. The key lies in achieving a harmonious balance among them.
The Technician: This individual embodies the present and focuses on the tangible aspects of building and sustaining the business. Often recognized as the most visible contributor, the Technician is the hands-on “doer.”
The Manager: Representing the rearview mirror, the Manager addresses challenges by drawing lessons from past experiences. Responsible for the practical facets of the business, they oversee development and planning, providing a grounded perspective.
The Entrepreneur: Looking toward the future, the Entrepreneur envisions the business’s trajectory. Responsible for innovation, they continually explore new avenues to enhance products, services, branding, and overall business image.
Success in any business venture hinges on the collaborative efforts of these three roles. To establish a robust foundation, careful consideration must be given to selecting individuals with the right skills for each role. While you may fulfill one of these roles, it’s crucial to align your position with your inherent skills and talents, rather than simply assuming the role you think you should play.
In the early years you may be all three and that is ok, but know that the quicker you get to building this team. The quicker you will be on the path to a more profitable business and one that serves you the owner at a higher level. After all that is what we’re all about isn’t it?
Navigating this process may be challenging, as it involves relinquishing some control and entrusting your team to excel in their respective roles. This can be difficult but it also is where most business owners fail. I’ve been there and felt it so I know first hand the struggle. I’ve also been a benefactor of what pushing through that struggle can do for a business.
